Jim has been employed as a Deputy Coroner since June 2003. As a death investigator / forensic autopsy assistant Jim’s duties include death investigation, collecting evidence, drawing toxicology samples, assisting with forensic autopsies and doing human remains recovery/identification. Jim has experience in assisting with morgue operations in mass casualty situations when he was deployed to Port au Prince, Haiti in 2010 after the earthquake and San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2018 after the Hurricane. In 2011 Jim was promoted to Chief Deputy Coroner and in July of 2013 Jim obtained his fellowship status after becoming board certified in Medicolegal Death Investigation through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Jim is the chairman of the Adult Fatality Review Team for the State of Illinois Lincolnland #7 and sits on the State of Illinois Adult Fatality Advisory Council. In 2019 Jim was appointed to the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators Advisory Council.
