Jim Allmon has served at the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office for 17 years. He has assumed many positions during his time at the coroner’s office … deputy, chief deputy and now, coroner. Appointed following the tragic passing of Cinda Edwards, he is now running for the office. This job itself, is in my wheel house. “This is what I do, and I’d like to think I’m good at it.”
Jim’s experience includes death investigator / forensic autopsy assistant, collecting evidence, drawing toxicology samples, assisting with forensic autopsies and doing human remains recovery/identification. Jim also has experience assisting with mass casualty morgue operations when he was deployed to Port au Prince, Haiti in 2010 after the earthquake and San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2018 after the Hurricane.
Jim is board certified in Medicolegal Death Investigation through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. He is the chairman of the Adult Fatality Review Team for the State of Illinois Lincolnland #7 and sits on the State of Illinois Adult Fatality Advisory Council. In 2019 Jim was appointed to the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators Advisory Council.
