Dan Wright has over 15 years of experience in private practice and public service as a prosecutor in Sangamon County. In 2018, Wright was unanimously appointed State’s Attorney by a bi-partisan County Board after serving as First Assistant State’s Attorney.
A proven prosecutor, Dan Wright has secured convictions at trial in cases involving among the most serious crimes, including numerous First Degree Murder convictions, shootings, aggravated domestic battery, armed robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, crimes against the elderly and official misconduct by a government employee. Wright received the highest possible peer review rating for professional excellence in the areas of legal expertise, communication skills and ethical standards. He is currently chair of the Sangamon County Juvenile Justice Council and the President of the Springfield Area Child Death Review Team. He was appointed by the Illinois State Superintendent of Schools to serve as the only State’s Attorney on a statewide task force to combat sexual abuse in school settings.
Dan Wright’s commitment to our community has included service on numerous non-profit boards including the United Way, Memorial Behavioral Health, Catholic Charities, The Outlet, CrimeStoppers, and the COVID-19 Response Fund for the Greater Capital Region which has distributed nearly $1 million to direct service organizations in our community. Wright founded the Sangamon County Senior Support Alliance and Co-founded “Promoting Unity Through Public Interest Law – PUPIL” which works with community partners to encourage students to learn more about careers in public interest law. Dan is married with four children and lives in Springfield.
